The Annual Benefit is Blessed Sacrament's biggest fundraising event and best party of the year! This event is a true celebration of our community and provides critical funding for the many programs and initiatives made possible by the HSA.
Every October, the HSA runs a Book Fair in the school auditorium. There is always a great selection of books, posters, and other goodies. A Book Fair Reading Contest gets the students excited, involved, and READING! Each class visits the Book Fair during school hours and parents are welcome to join.
Blessed Sacrament receives 25% of all sales. This is a wonderful and easy way for parents and parishioners to give back to the school.
Every May, the Blessed Sacrament HSA organizes a 5K run through the BSS neighborhood. This is a wonderful event for all ages. Participants have the option to get chip timed. Registration for this event opens in March.
Bulldogging happens during key moments throughout the school year, when stealth volunteers “bulldog” a house with Duffy cutouts in the front yard, delighting BSS students upon waking up. You can surprise your children, another family, or even a teacher by purchasing a Bulldogging date. It’s a great way to show BSS pride!
Blessed Sacrament offers a fundraiser through Ledo Pizza on River Road in Bethesda and Potomac Pizza in Chevy Chase. Blessed Sacrament receives 20% of all dine-in and carry-out sales by those who identify Blessed Sacrament. These dates will be announced in the Weekly.
A lovely BSS tradition, girls of all ages and their fathers are welcome to attend this evening. It’s a great chance to dress up and dance with Dad. Tickets are purchased through the Annual Benefit. Proceeds support the Home and School Association.
The Mother-Son Jammin’ Fun is a much loved BSS tradition for boys and their moms in Kindergarten to 5th grade. Join the party with a DJ, photo booth, ice cream truck and more. Support the school by attenging or volunteering.
This pancake dinner is hosted by the HSA to celebrate Fat Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent. Families are invited to gather in the auditorium to eat pancakes and celebrate this time-honored tradition. Support the school by purchasing tickets, volunteering as a pancake-maker, pancake-server, or check-in helper.
The Spirit Wear committee manages, promotes, and sells BSS themed clothing and Bulldog swag throughout the year, and is one of our most popular fundraisers. Spirit Wear can be pre-ordered online by families during the school year. Additionally, a curated list of popular items can be purchased during several in-person, pop-up sales throughout the year. It’s a great way to get fresh merchandise, while supporting the school.
Formally known as the Uniform Exchange, this committee collects gently used and loved uniforms to resale for a fraction of the price! The uniforms are cleaned and organized for sales throughout the school year.
As part of our strong Catholic faith and desire to help others, Blessed Sacrament is involved in many service projects throughout the year to help the needy, the hungry, and the sick. While there are many more individual grade level service projects, our school-wide service projects include:
Every fall, baby bottles are distributed to the students to fill with spare change to raise money for the Gabriel Network, an organization that provides care for pregnant women in crisis situations.
Every December, Blessed Sacrament and many other parishes collect canned and non-perishable foods for the Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive. Over the past 30 years, the food drive has collected almost 2 million cans, supplying numerous shelters throughout the greater Washington DC metropolitan area with much needed food. For more information, please visit www.ggcfd.org.
Every spring, students are asked to do chores at home or for neighbors, and each chore earns them $2.00. The $2.00 represents the 2 billion people in the world who live on less than $2.00 a day. The funds raised are donated to the Holy Cross Sisters in Uganda.
For the last 75 years, Blessed Sacrament hosts this very special and fun Mission Fair every May, with the help of many parent volunteers, to benefit the Holy Cross Mission School in Kirinda, Uganda. The Fair takes place on the school grounds. Students enjoy games, obstacle courses, face painting, a faculty dunk tank, hot dogs, cotton candy, prizes, and much more!
Every Christmas, the students donate toiletries to fill warm socks for the needy families served by the Blessed Sacrament Soup Kitchen, the Spanish Catholic Center, and St. Thomas More. Our 6th graders collect the donations and fill 500 "stockings".
Blessed Sacrament's Christ CARE Corps coordinates an Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive at Blessed Sacrament School. Students are asked to bring in specific food items and a $5.00 donation so turkeys and fresh groceries can be purchased. These donations are distributed to families in our school community, families in our parish social concerns program, and families served by the Spanish Catholic Center.
